My research interests are in food safety and veterinary public health with an emphasis on the molecular epidemiology of zoonotic enteric foodborne pathogens. My research aims to understand the role of wildlife and domestic animals in the dissemination of Campylobacter, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, and Salmonella in farm environments. One of my key outreach goals is to work with stakeholders to develop co-management approaches to protect fruits, nuts, and vegetables from microbial contamination while at the same time promoting environmental stewardship on farms. I am also interested in working with smaller-scale and diversified produce and livestock farms to implement cost-effective, practical food safety good agricultural practices.
